Michael has worked as a Building Surveyor since 1978, qualifying ARICS in 1982 and FRICS in 1993. He was a director of Willmotts Property Services, a multi-disciplinary surveying business, from 1986-1989 and set up his own practice in 1989 and in 2005 this was merged with Cardoe Martin Limited. Kemp & Co. remains as a division of the Cardoe Martin Group.

Throughout his career Michael has been involved with the repair, maintenance and alteration of mainly residential buildings and has also been involved extensively in litigation matters, particularly over disrepair, dilapidations and building disputes. He regularly prepares reports for litigation purposes, both as a party appointed expert and as Single Joint Expert and has given evidence in court on numerous occasions over a 20 year period.

He presently prepares at least 30 CPR compliant reports a year and is appointed as a Single Joint Expert in a significant proportion of these.

Michael has also undertaken a great deal of work under the Party Wall Etc. Act 1996 and regularly deals with Landlord and Tenant matters, such as licences for alterations, dilapidations etc.

Michael acts as an assessor for the Assessment of Professional Competence for the RICS, and is a member of the Pyramus and Thisbe Club for Party Wall Surveyors, and has lectured on both the Party Wall Etc. Act 1996 and other technical subjects.
